Dual Purpose of God’s Blessings
Bro. Andrew preached on 16 March that the Lord is good. Indeed, we are blessed by the goodness of God. Moreover, He delights in blessing us. Yet, in blessing us He has a higher purpose. God said to Abraham that He will bless him and make him a blessing. Blessing Abraham is a purpose of God but making him a blessing unto others is His higher purpose.
Genesis 12:2
…I will bless you
And make your name great;
And you shall be a blessing. NKJV
Let’s consider the following scenario: You invest S$10 million to become a partner in a business involved in the manufacture of stem-cells. Obviously your business partners cannot transfer the money to another company of theirs to manufacture golf equipment or for any other use because the purpose is to manufacture stem-cells. Furthermore they have to give dividends for your investment.
When you pray and ask God for business ideas and/or for God to bless your business and to give you direction, etc, you are invoking Him to be your partner. When the Lord answers your prayer, you cannot use whatever is given to you for another purpose. When the Lord blesses you He has a higher purpose – that is, to make you a blessing. You need to ask Him what His higher purpose is. You can’t just take all the blessings and do whatever you want and not consider Him at all. You need to ask God what His higher purpose of blessing/investing into your life is. (more…)
