The Redemption of Christ

Jesus had the last supper with His disciples on Thursday night because Friday began on Thursday 6pm. At the last supper Jesus partook Holy Communion with them. Holy Communion is a type of Jesus’ death, burial and resurrection. After the last supper Jesus’ disciples followed Him up the Mount of Olives where He prayed.

At the Garden, Jesus prayed the consecration prayer. He suffered the agony of soul and spirit because it was a very tormenting experience. Else why would the Heavenly Father send an angel to strengthen Him. The agony sapped His strength. He sweat blood through this process. Afterwhich He made the decision to go to the cross. His body was scourged when the power of sin, sickness, and poverty was laid on His Spirit. He suffered emotionally and physically to pay the price of our sin.

Jesus had to die physically and spiritually for the sin of the whole world, because the world is under the curse of Satan. Spiritual death is not cessation of life of His Spirit, but a separation from His Heavenly Father because of the power of sin laid on His Spirit. His blood that was shed before the cross and on the cross speaks of death and life.

Jesus died, i.e., separation from God, and went to hell as our substitute but He rose again to life by the power of the Holy Spirit so that we can have eternal life (no longer separated from God). In addition, we can also have the power of the Holy Spirit giving life to our spirit, soul and body.
